Description
Facilitated ankylosis is a claw-sparing procedure for the treatment of distal interphalangeal or coffin joint septic arthritis in cattle. While claw amputation is considered a salvage procedure, facilitated ankylosis can extend the productive lives of animals of high genetic merit or who are very heavy. In this module, I cover case selection criteria, including cases for which FA can be expected to help and those for whom it is likely to fail. I then cover the procedure step by step, including aftercare, which is critical in the recovery of these animals to a productive and comfortable life.
