From chronic bloat to foreign bodies to hardware abscesses, there are many indications to open up a rumen and have a look inside. In this module, I’ll cover the indications for rumen surgery, local anesthesia, rumenostomy, rumenotomy and how they can provide resolution to a variety of conditions, including peritonitis due to hardware. As a bonus, I include step-by-step photos for how to create a rumen fluid donor animal – from the prep to the surgery to how to care for the animal afterwards. And, yes, you should have a rumen donor! Ok, you’ll think about it. 😉
